Being the almost perfect, kind and wise engine means that Edward is almost a boring and uninteresting character to write for in a story and in many ways, works better as just a tag along character. The main factor that causes the love and praise of Edward is clearly the one reason the show’s creators loathe him. Well after much analysis there seems to be one key. Throughout this entire article I’ve been asking one question? How can a character who is god-loved by fans be so hated and disused/disrespected by the people who make the show for the fans. Heck I reckon she would’ve put Bill and Ben in the script before she even thought about touching Edward. Nope, I think the honest truth is that Allcroft, frankly, didn’t want Edward anywhere near her “masterpiece”. Now I don’t wish to dispute this but I’m calling BULLSHIT!!!! If they could include a scene where Bertie talks about a race for two seconds and Harold just covers the shed in dust, then surely they could’ve included Edward for one scene. According to an interview with Phil Fehrle (one of Allcroft producers on the film), there was not enough screen time or opportunity to utilise him in a way that added any real value to the film.

Why do you think all the original seven bar Edward appeared in that disastrous movie that was Magic Railroad. I mean, think about it, in Series 3-5, (where Allcroft’s had more control of what and who appears in Thomas) think about how many times Edward appears in Tidmouth Sheds (it’s about 5 to be close) and think about how many times Edward has a speaking role (again, compared to the others it’s insignificant). Then again Christopher isn’t the only “Edward hater” out there.īut the one character that she never wanted, was of course, Edward. Wilbert then created a Tank Engine called Thomas who Christopher massively preferred and the rest they say is History. Then again, according to Wilbert, after a model of Edward was made in 1944, Christopher hardly played with it and wanted Gordon and Henry instead.

Now, given that small detail, would not be possible to assume that Christopher never liked.

Even on a book that’s based entirely on Edward’s Branchline, is called “Thomas and the Twins.” Most of the stories in this book are about Bill and Ben, Thomas, obviously also plays a big role and the one story that isn’t is about Trevor. Edward was clearly one Christopher’s lackies as throughout Christopher’s 16 books he wrote at maximum of one story about Edward and only had a speaking role in six stories, most of which was just a one liner. One of the reasons I mentioned was because due to his, “ahem” character bias, engines like Percy, Sir Handel and Daisy get plenty of stories while others like Oliver, BoCo and Rusty hardly speak or have any stories at all.
